Jim Causley Visit - Poetry Week

Last week was poetry week across the school.  Throughout the week we have been exploring the poems of Charles Causley.

Charles Causley is a cornish poet with ancestoral links to Devon.  He is a prolific and talented poet who was revered nationally.

Charles' relative, Jim Causley is a folk singer and he visited Homelands this week to bring some of Charles Causley's poems to life for the children.  He did this by singing some of Charles' poems.  Jim was comissioned by the Causley Trust to make 2 albums of Charles Causley peoms set to music.  These are 'Cypress Well' and 'I am the Song', which is a collection of Charles' children's poems.

The children were really inspired by Jim's visit and there was a real sense of awe and wonder.  Jim played the piano-accordian and the piano.  The children loved hearing the songs and joining in with the choruses!

Jim was really impressed by how engaged and enthusiastic the children were.  They asked him thought provoking questions about poetry and being a folk singer.  The children also, confidently, recited poems to Jim.  It was a wonderful afternoon, full of celebration, westcountry pride, fun and inspiration.

Thank you Jim for making such lovely memories for our children!
