Year 1

Welcome to Year 1

In Year 1 your class teacher is Miss Shorland.  We also have Mrs Burke, Mrs Fuller, Mrs Lee and Mrs Ivey to support us with our learning.

Every week, children will have either a piece of literacy or maths homework to help them carry on this weeks learning at home. Please complete all activities in pencil. Children will have a weekly spelling list. They will be tested on a Wednesday, Thursday or Friday and will receive their new list before the end of the week.  Children are tested on their number bonds every Thursday.

We have PE on a Thursday and Friday, please ensure that your child's PE kit is in school on these days and that it is clearly labelled with their name. Children need indoor and outdoor PE kits in school all through the year.

Art class share this Thursday 14th December at 3pm in the Year 1 classroom.

The children have been working very hard over the last few weeks to perfect their colour mixing skills. They have created some lovely pieces of art and are very excited to share them with you.

Visit from Santa 12/12/17.

We have had a very exciting day in Year 1 today because Santa came for a visit. He has heard about how hard we have been working this term and thought we deserved a special treat. Thank you Santa!

December Science workshop with Alex from Recycle Devon.

On Wednesday 6th December, Year 1 had a special science visit from Alex at Recycle Devon. Together they explored and described materials, had fun being recycling heroes and sorted lots of materials into the recycling boxes. The children are looking forward to trying this at home.

Seasonal changes exploration in Autumn.

As part of our science this year, Year 1 will be exploring how seasons change. Thank you to everyone who collected the Autumn leaves for our Autumn collages. We had great fun exploring the colours and textures. We used magnifying glasses to observe the tiniest parts of the leaves and drew careful, detailed pictures of what we could see. We also went on an Autumn walk in the garden to see what we could see.

Phonics Workshop

Thank you very much to everyone that came along to our Phonics Workshop this week! The children really enjoyed sharing their phonics activities with you. We hope that you now feel more confident to support your child's phonics work at home!
