Year 4

Welcome to Year Four

Your Year 4 teachers are Mrs Keast and Mrs Bennett. Mrs Keast teaches on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays and Mrs Bennett teaches on a Thursday and Friday. Mrs Clarke and Mrs Washington- Turner are the class TAs.

As part of their homework the children are expected to read every day.  Reading Journals will be checked every week and there is a minimum expectation of each child reading on at least 4 occasions every week. Spellings are handed out every Thursday and then tested the following Wednesday or Thursday.  Times tables are tested on a Wednesday.

We have PE on a Wednesday and Thursday, please ensure that your child's PE kit is in school on these days and that it is clearly labelled. Thank you!

Homework and Book Share Session - January 2018

Thank you to everyone who came to our homework and book share session.  The children love to have a wider audience with which to share their hard work.  We were all particularly impressed with the high quality homework that came into school and with how imaginative the children had been with it! It was good to have a designated time to share some our books with you too.  Please remember that parents are welcome to come and share any books with their children at the end of a school day - you do not need an appointment as the teacher does not need to be there for your child to share their books with you.

Music Share December 2017

We shared our musical learning of buccaneers and buried gold, through the story Treasure Island by Robert Louis Stevenson. Tempo, major and minor and singing in two parts were some of the things we shared.  Thank you to all who came and we hoped you enjoyed it.

Please follow the link to see and hear one of our songs.

Science Workshop

Alex from Resource Futures (sponsored by Torbay Council) joined Year 4 for a 'Recycled Materials Challenge' workshop.

We enjoyed learning about where materials come from and what they can be recycled into.  The children learnt lots of interesting facts about the damaging affects that we can have on our environment.  We also learnt about the difference between renewable and non renewable sources.

Ask your children to share their knowledge with you and see what actions your family can take to help the environment.

Science Share Autumn 2017

Thank you to all who came to our class science share on Monday.  It was great to see so many faces; mums, dads, aunties and grandmas too! We hope that everyone enjoyed sharing in the children's learning and testing their own knowledge of circuits too!  There was a good buzz in the room with lots of competitiveness in our quiz!  You were all winners in our book!  We look forward to sharing more learning with you soon.

  Spanish

We have continued to build upon our Spanish knowledge this term and have been learning about animals, the Spanish alphabet and classroom instructions.  The last two weeks of this term have been spent learning about Christmas traditions in Spain.

Below are some links to games we have played in class.  Try and play some at home!
