Over the next two weeks we will be doing some Geography with a focus around building maps!
This unit of work is called: Exploring my home.
We would like you to start with some key questions around your home and the area that you live in.
The outcome of this project will be for you to create a map of your home and local area. You might also go a bit further and consider how you might want to change / develop the area that you live in if you could. Can you justify the reasons for the changes that you would make?
Here is some Key Vocabulary which you and your family might want to consider throughout your project: map, valley/hill, landmarks, landscape, coast, cliff, beach, aerial map, human and physical features.
You can create your map however you like. You might choose to draw / paint it on paper or even using the computer. You could get creative and collect things from your local area like sticks and leaves to ‘build’ a map of your local area just like in this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BiTfdZsAAqM&feature=youtu.be.
You might want to get even more creative and build 3D models. The choice is yours!
In Year One, we would like you to think carefully about the human and physical features of your local area and how you could represent these on your map. If you need to refresh your memory on what human and physical features are then click this link to find out more information: https://www.homelands.torbay.sch.uk/human-and-physical-features/
Some tasks that you could do to help you with your project:
