Football at Homelands

Football is back at Homelands!

Our Year 5 and 6 children have been practicing their skills at football club since November and 10 lucky lads were chosen to play in our first friendly match since 2019. Its was a sunny afternoon and the team certainly looked the part in our new Royal Blue football kit. The team have been focusing on passing and moving by playing small games, crossing and shooting drills as well how to attack corners. Our first match saw Homelands take on Priory (a local Derby) in which Homelands came out on top with a comfortable 16-0 win! The team were brilliant, everyone worked hard, supported each other, and focused on quick attacks - so congratulations to you all. The midfield trio of Archie (Captain), Ronnie and Finley who all play football on Sundays for local teams really showed how training regularly can improve your skills, which helped our team take control in this game. Our defence was immense, they stood tall and cleared the danger which gave the team a base to build attacks from – Joshua is now known as the ‘The Wall’! We would also like to commend Manuir-Anahat our Year 5 representative who despite being younger and smaller than others is always brave when tackling. Overall, it was a great day for our Homelands team, and we are so proud of their attitude and performance throughout the game, but huge praise and admiration must also go to Priory for playing and fighting until the very end – they never gave up and made our team work hard until the final whistle.  Mr Swann and Mrs Herrera would like to thank the Priory children, Mr Hazlewood for accepting our invite and both sets of parents/carers who came to support and watch. Football Club will be back on for all children next week and we will look to pick a group of 10 to play against St Margaret’s on 28th March.
