The Seagull project.

The Seagull Project

Homelands were lucky enough to be invited to take part in a wonderful collaborative project along with other schools across Torbay. Each participating school was given a set of plain ceramic seagulls to decorate and had a very special visit from an artist to help guide and focus our ideas. Our artist, Anna, came and worked closely with three classes in the school. She helped us to see how we could draw inspiration from our own lives, but also helped us to see that an enormous amount of thought and consideration goes into the planning of the piece as you think about how your audience will interact with it.

With one seagull left to decorate, our newly appointed Art Ambassadors shared their advice from Anna and held a competition for all children in the school to have the chance to come up with a winning design. It was very difficult for the ambassadors to choose, but after some careful consideration four winning designs we chosen. The Art Ambassadors worked closely with these children to help them think of ways to combine their ideas and we were all very pleased with the results.

All four seagull’s will be displayed on a very special trail across Torquay this Summer.

We will keep you posted with the location of this trail nearer to the time.

A huge thank you to all of those who participated in the project and to our new Art Ambassadors, Max, Isabel, Amilee and Frances for all of your hard work. All entries and further photographs of the seagulls will be available soon on our ‘Art at Homelands’ tab on our website.
