Read the list of words above. Practice reading the words by saying each sound and then blending them back together. Draw a picture to match each word and write each word on a piece of paper. Now hide the words and pictures all around the house/garden. You could give your child a list of words to find and tick off as they go. 6-8 from across the different digraphs would be a good amount to start with.

  • How many words can you find?
  • When you find a word, can you robot talk then blend the word back together to read it?
  • Can you find the matching pictures?

(We have also attached a PDF below where you can print out the words and pictures for the treasure hunt.)

Extension:

See below the link to some sorting grids and pictures.  You can either print them off or if you don’t have a printer, draw them.

  • Can you sort them into the short ‘oo’, long ‘oo’ and ‘ar’ grids?
  • Can you stick them around your home and then ask your child to hunt for them and write the words down by sounding them out?

You can use your sound mat to help you.
