Spring Term

Visitor

On 12/2/20, Chris the lollipop man visited Reception. The children enjoyed learning about the different crossings including the zebra crossing and pelican crossing. They learnt how and when to cross a road safely including what the different signals, lights and road markings mean. They also learnt about pedestrians and vehicles, two super words which we have added to our wow word wall. Chris told us that he is a ‘school crossing patrol officer’ and showed us what his special uniform looks like. We will all remember our four important rules for crossing the road. STOP! LOOK! LISTEN! THINK! We even watched a special video and learnt a catchy song with actions to help us remember these 4 important things. Chris also made sure that we knew how to stay safe as a passenger in a car including using our seat belts and car seats. We even talked about what our grown ups should and shouldn't be doing when they cross the road. Thank you for coming to talk to us Chris!

Drumming Workshop

Reception had a wonderful time in their Chinese drumming workshop where they learnt to say a few Chinese phrases such as hello and thank you. They learnt how to play the gong, cymbal and drums and carefully followed the rhythm played by the emperor. They worked together to perform the chinese dragon dance and learnt how the dragon follows the pearl.

Chinese New Year

We have had a fabulous couple of weeks learning all about Chinese New Year.

We have looked on maps to see where China is in the World and we compared which animals lived there with which ones live in Torquay.  We could see the United Kingdom was tiny compared to China!  Lisa our cleaner came and gave us a demonstration of Tai Chi with fan and sword dancing some of us decided to make our own fans to do our own fan dances in class.  We have also use some of the Tai Chi exercises in calm time.  Mrs Oakley also visited us and taught a dance workshop with us, we were dragons, monkeys, snakes and tigers, fire and water.  Thank you Mrs Oakley we loved it!

We have also designed and made our own Chinese drums ready for a concert on Friday.  We have had prawn crackers in snack and we have even tried to use chopsticks! It has been great fun! Soon we are going to have a Chinese Music workshop in the hall we can’t wait!

Pizza Express Visit

On Thursday 16th January Reception class visited Pizza Express and all made their own pizzas. After carefully washing their hands, Reception class all wore a special apron and hat in preparation for their pizza making. The children enjoyed exploring the sticky dough, carefully spreading their sauce and sprinkling their yummy mozzarella before waiting patiently for their pizzas to be cooked. They were all very adventurous and brave as they taste tested many pizza toppings such as olives, basil, mushrooms and peppers. Well done Reception class and a huge thank you to all our parent helpers too.
