Spring Term 2022

30th March. Easter egg hunts, an Easter picnic and making yummy chocolate nests for Easter. What a busy day!

Painting waves and having fun!

Today we started to plant our vegetable and herb garden. We planted peppers, sugar snap peas, lettuce, celery, tomatoes and lots of herbs.

Week Starting 15th March. This week we are looking at measuring. We are looking at how tall we are and will order our shoes from biggest to smallest. We have made stacks of cubes and compared their lengths. We have also learnt to estimate and then check by counting- looking at daisies. We have also learned about healthy eating. Later in the week we looked at using playdough to form letter shapes and also explored how we change from babies to toddlers to children- looking at clothes to help us.

Week starting the 8th March. We enjoyed looking for birds on a trip to the field. We made fresh playdough. This week we have also been busily preparing for Mother's Day.

World Book day 2021

Mrs Smethurst and Mrs Birks reading and retelling some of their favourite books and stories

Dressing up for World Book Day and doing lots of fun Enormous Crocodile activities.

Week starting the 1st March. Many of our activities this week are linked to our story 'The Enormous Crocodile' by Roald Dahl, which we are reading all week. We are doing a 'World Book Week' this week in celebration of World Book day 2021.

A week late- activities in honour of shrove Tuesday! Pancake races and pancake/playdough maths. We raced in the hall and on the field.

Our Favourite Poems

Another child chose this poem:

Oh, the places you'll Go!

You have brains in your head
You have feet in your shoes.
You can steer yourself in any direction you choose.
Dr. Seuss.

Millie's favourite rhymes and poems:

 One, Two, Three, Four, Five

One, two, three, four, five,
Once I caught a fish alive,
Six, seven, eight, nine, ten,
Then I let it go again.
Why did you let it go?
Because it bit my finger so.
Which finger did it bite?
This little finger on my right

One of Mrs Smethurst's favourite poems:

Happy Chinese New Year! Wonderful photos from Sienna and her family and their celebrations.

Week Starting the 8th February. More Chinese New Year fun! On Tuesday it snowed when we went up to the field. We had lorts of fun. It was so cold we had to warm up with yummy hot chocolate when we got back to nursery.

Children's Mental Health Week. Mindfulness coloring and more! The children listened to music and draw pictures to express how the music made them feel. We also talked about what makes us happy.

27th, 28th and 29th January. More traditional tales fun, including trying some yummy 3 Bear's porridge!

26th January . what a busy day in nursery! We did a 3 Little Pigs playdough maths activity, made a story map, painted rainbows and drew train tracks for the little wooden Flying Scotsman train that was visiting nursery.

A trip to the big school field. Picking daisies, rolling in the grass, finding feathers and enjoying having lots of space to run about. Afterwards, we went to the garden/pond area. Here we looked at the fish, hunted for minibeasts and checked our bird feeders.

25th January. Having fun in today's sunshine outside. Exploring and learning inside.

19th January. Having fun and keeping fit in the big school hall.

Week starting the 18th January. We have started our Traditional Tales topic this week. We have started with the story of Little Red riding Hood. The children have enjoyed playing traditional tales lotto and retelling the stories we have read. We have been learning about number by exploring the Numicon pieces.

15th January. We practiced our mark making skills by writing shopping lists. We also went to the garden area to check if any birds had visited the bird feeders that we had made earlier in the week.

Today we went to the school's pond area and garden. We saw lots of big fish swimming in the pond. We made birdfeeders in class and took them to hang up for the birds in the garden. We also went bird watching. Back in nursery we had lots of time busily playing and learning.

Week starting the 11th January. Having fun meeting our new friends and enjoying playing with our old friends too!

Our first few days back after the Christmas holidays. We all painted rainbows, had lots of time outside and did some counting work. The children looked through their special learning journey books. They also had a pretend picnic. We also read a story called Sam starts School and watched a video about how to wash our hands really well.

Today was very icy! We investigated the ice outside and brought some in to watch it melt in a tray inside. We made some simple board games and enjoyed playing them.
