In Reception we carry on all the excellent learning that has happened in our Nursery. We also have a number of children that come from a wide range of nurseries and preschools in the local area, this gives the opportunity for children to build on old friendships but make some new ones too! We become our own Reception team and work to look after each other and our fabulous school.
Through play, and with the support of adults in class, children explore and discover ideas, skills and concepts. The children are encouraged to be problem solvers and may repeat ideas they have thought of to build on knowledge, the children are fabulous at thinking of new ways to do things! As well as learning through play and child initiated activities, the children also work closely with the adults through adult directed activities. We may introduce a new skill to build on or teach the children some new facts about a subject. The most important factor is to create an exciting and engaging curriculum and foster that love for learning. If we can do this is Foundation we can take this attitude through to the rest of our school life! The children use both the inside and outside classrooms daily and part of the uniform is for adults to provide waterproofs and wellies which are kept in school. In Reception our uniform is similar to the rest of the school but both the girls and boys wear grey school trousers.
In Reception we also learn the important skills of reading, writing , handwriting and mathematics as short lessons. The children in Reception receive a Guided Reading book each week to read with their adult, a reading record is provided for the teacher to share the learning intention with the adult and for the adult to comment on how their child is reading at home. Both Nursery and Reception have book boxes where adults and children can choose books to take home and share. We always have a phonics workshop for all parents in the Autumn term so we can share how we teach reading and phonics to your children.
Most of all we encourage and support children to become confident and independent learners. We work to build strong partnerships with parents so that we can develop your child’s education together. We want you child to be happy and have a positive learning experience where they feel nurtured and supported and where we can have lots of fun learning together!
