Autumn 2 - Forest School

The children finished their final two forest school sessions of this term with a treat – roasting marshmallows on a fire and then making smores – these went down very well!  During these sessions, they talked about fire safety and had the opportunity to enjoy some of their favourite activities: den building and hammocks.

Autumn 2: Year 6 Civic Award

Thank you to everyone who came and supported the Year 6 Fair – the turnout was amazing.  The seven children working towards their award had worked hard to create their stalls and really appreciated your support – they raised just under £300 between them for their respective charities.  Well done to Arabella, Isaac, Riley, Lilly, Matilda, Isabelle and Agnes.

Autumn 1: Design & Technology

At the end of last half term, Year 6 emersed themselves into a project that combined tie-dying with sewing.  The children learnt, practised and experimented with a range of different tie-dying techniques including: bullseye, stripes and small circles.  They reviewed these and chose one they liked in their final design.  They also practised different stiches including: back stich, running stich and cross stitch, reviewing these and choosing what they would like in their final design.  By the end of the two weeks, they had combined both skills and either designed their own t-shirt or pillowcase.  The children were on the whole very pleased with their results!

Autumn 1: Science

We’ve had a very hands-on start to our science in Year 6, where the children have been learning about the inner workings of the Circulatory System.  To begin with we recreated the Circulatory System on a large scale.  The children in the middle of the classroom worked together as the heart and lungs, exchanging oxygenated and deoxygenated blood.  Others then transported this blood through the blood vessels to and from the heart and different parts of the body around the room.

The following session, the children experienced observing a heart, exploring its chambers and blood vessels to help gain a deeper understanding of how it works.
